The German Society for Pediatric Infectious Diseases or Deutsche Gesellschaft für Pädiatrische Infektiologie (DGPI) was founded in 1991 as a registered association that emerged from the Infectious Diseases Working Group of the Society for Pediatrics of the former GDR and the Commission for Infectious Diseases of the German Society for Pediatrics in the Federal Republic of Germany. DGPI stands for competence, expertise and care in pediatric infectious diseases. Goals of DGPI: • To promote the scientific and practical concerns of pediatric infectious diseases and to expand and disseminate knowledge about infectious diseases in children and adolescents, • To develop the scientific basis for the best possible care of children and adolescents with infections and their prevention through their own scientific studies, • To promote further training in pediatric infectious diseases, • To maintain national and international cooperation in the field of infectious diseases in children and adolescents.
