The Austrian Stroke Society or Österreichisches Schlaganfall-Gesellschaft (ÖGSF) was founded in 1998. The ÖGSF is a member of the European Stroke Organization (ESO) and the World Stroke Organization (WSO).

The aim of the society is to promote research in the field of cerebral blood flow disorders, and strokes in general. The research relates to the cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of stroke.

The purpose is to be achieved by:
• Scientific events on all areas of stroke
• Examination of scientific projects with regard to their eligibility
• Support for research in the field of stroke

The association's activities are non-profit and not profit-making. The purpose of the association is to support and promote research, clinical care as well as training and further education in the field of stroke medicine. The research relates to prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation but also to basic research.
• Scientific events on all areas of stroke
• Support for research in the field of stroke
• Promotion of the collaboration and the exchange of experiences between the stroke units and between the doctors working in stroke care and other professional disciplines. Measures to optimize the quality of treatment
• public relation
• Support for training and further education
• Networking with other scientific societies on a national and international level
